Eurobrick Systems Ltd, specialists in brick slip cladding systems
were very pleased to supply and fit the cladding to Hughes Hall,
Cambridge for their new Learning Resources Centre, designed by
Cambridge architects, Bidwells. It is well known, that the beautiful
city of Cambridge is full of ancient landmark properties. The
contemporary design for the new building had to complement the
existing surrounding buildings.
The bricks were carefully chosen to do this. Westley Red Stock and Nori Best Red bricks were specially cut for the project. The bricks slips were arranged in stack bond with contrasting soldier course, as well as a small section of half bond. Eurobrick’s cladding is very versatile and can easily accommodate different brick bond arrangements. A light sandstone mortar was used for the pointing to provide a contrast with the red bricks.
The overall effect is a striking, modern building which fits in well with the traditional buildings surrounding it.
